Marina di Pisciotta is a small suburb of fisherman (200 inhabitants ca.) and it is situated in the National Park of Cilento, south of Salerno. The first contructions were rooms on the ground floor with an arch Entrance ("Magazzeni"). Some of them had natural stone wall with a fresh water well. In these ground floor, the fisherman pulled their boats, salted and seasoned the anchovies, wich were pressed in a small wooden chestnut containers ("trezzarole"), covered with a wooden top ("timpagno") a stones taken from the beach ("Agliaredde"). They fish with a special net called "Menaica", it has large meshes and it is left adrift. This old tecnique is still used today, but by very few fisherman. They fish during the night and only the bigger anchovies get caught in the net. The fish die because they lose a lot of blood try to free themselves, that is whey their color is a pink and they have such an intense perfume and unique flavour.
